Not My Party

This body of work is an alternative portrait series of trans people. Balloons, used as party decorations are assigned genders for the purpose of celebrating the anatomical sex of unborn babies. “Gender reveal” parties are an example of the deeply set expectations some set for children. I challenge this by titling the works after the actual genders of real people, conflicting with their birth sex as denoted by what we perceive as boy or girl colors.

Balloons are not babies and pink is not a girl.
